Joel Finningley

I am entrepreneur at heart with a background in tech startups from the business side. Now that we have Claude Code and other related tools, I am shipping product prototypes instead of creating PowerPoint's about them. This site is a record of that journey on both ends; the business model research (Archived in Analyses) and the agentic research (published in the Notebook).

Lumos Business started back in 2010, writing about business models as Alex Osterwalder's Business Model Canvas was reshaping how people talked about them. Many of my early posts flew to the top of search results for business-model breakdowns across many different industries. I would go on to make connections and business relationships around the world from that writing alone during that decade.

Over the last several years the blog was backbenched while the work continued elsewhere in the digital economy. But now we are back, on the back of the rebuilt website, which has been a whole experiment in and of itself.

It's pretty obvious that agents are going to reshape a lot of the software and commerce landscapes; people are building entire businesses on agents already. But these are not simple models to either understand or create, so I seek to synthesize the active research and experimentation in the Notebook, and continue to write the odd business research piece in Analyses. While in my day-to-day, I am deep into developing new models principally around video commerce.
